Borussia Dortmund will host Bundesliga leaders FC Heidenheim on Friday as club football makes its return after the international break.

Another tough challenge lies in store for Borussia Dortmund on Friday evening as they welcome league leaders Heidenheim to the Westfalenstadion. After being held to a goalless draw by Werder Bremen on matchday two, the Black and Yellows will be keen to return to winning ways this weekend. But in order to do that, they must defeat a Heidenheim side in fantastic form.

Heidenheim could not have asked for a better start to the season, having won both their Bundesliga games and secured their place in the league phase of the UEFA Conference League. Frank Schmidt's side could cause a lot of problems to BVB on Friday, much like they did when the two sides met last season.

Borussia Dortmund let a two-goal lead slip in this fixture last season, and the two sides played out a goalless draw at the Voith-Arena. And we could be in for a similarly tight game on Friday, with the well-drilled Heidenheim looking to play on the counter-attack.

Borussia Dortmund vs Heidenheim: Team News

Nuri Sahin's side will be boosted by Serhou Guirassy's return to full fitness, with the striker in line for his Borussia Dortmund debut on Friday. Yan Couto is also expected to return to the squad. But Nico Schlotterbeck will miss the game through suspension, while Gio Reyna is out with an injury.

Heidenheim have a number of difference makers in their squad, with Bayern Munich youngster Paul Wanner making an excellent start to his loan spell. The 18 year old has four goals and two assists to his name in four appearances this season.

Léo Scienza could also be a handful for the BVB defence after impressing during Heidenheim's 4-0 win over Augsburg before the international break. Former Borussia Dortmund II player Lennard Maloney is also expected to start for Heidenheim.
