Report: Mats Hummels only willing to stay at Borussia Dortmund if Edin Terzic is sacked
By Tushar Bahl
Mats Hummels has seemingly made it clear to the Borussia Dortmund bosses that he would only be willing to stay at the club if they part ways with head coach Edin Terzic.
With his current contract set to expire at the end of the month, it still remains to be seen what the future holds for Mats Hummels. Reports have claimed in recent weeks that the veteran centre-back is leaning towards a move away from Borussia Dortmund, with Italy being discussed as a possible destination.
According to Sky Sport, Hummels can imagine extending his contract at Borussia Dortmund. But in order for that to happen, he wants the club to part ways with Edin Terzic. The relationship between the two has seemingly become strained in recent months. And the 35 year old was also critical of BVB’s tactics in an interview with SportBILD ahead of the Champions League final.
The report adds that Borussia Dortmund have no plans to sack Terzic this summer, after the 41 year old led the club to the Champions League final. Terzic’s current contract still has 12 months left to run, and talks over an extension will likely take place after the start of next season.
Hummels is Borussia Dortmund’s second highest appearance maker of all time, having played 508 matches for the club. But his time at the club looks to be coming to an end.
The defender played a crucial role in BVB’s stunning run in the Champions League this season, and will have no shortage of options as he looks to pick his next club. The likes of AC Milan, Juventus, and AS Roma are all said to be interested in signing Hummels on a free transfer.
