Borussia Dortmund have been linked with a move for Genk starlet Konstantinos Karetsas for some time now. The clubs even reportedly met on Tuesday to discuss a potential move for the 18-year-old midfielder.
According to Gazzetta Greece, the BVB raised their offer to €31million to €32million plus bonuses while also promising another 15-20 per cent share of any future transfer fee in a further attempt to convince the Belgian side.
Although a move hasn't been finalized yet, the Bundesliga giants are said to appear confident of a positive outcome as the deal apparently seems 'closer than ever'. The ball is now in Genk's court, with the Belgian Pro League side aware of the player's interest in joining Dortmund and having agreed key terms of a contract until 2031.
An attacking midfielder by trade, Karetsas has alerted Europe with his creative brilliance for Genk last season, making 11 assists in the Belgian top-flight last season from 28 games while also showing up in Europa League with two goals and five assists.
No player in their squad registered more assists than him with 18, a figure that has made him appealing to Dortmund, who are in need of a similarly prolific creator following Julian Brandt's departure.
Moreover, the player comes with a lot of tactical flexibility. Although he plies his trade as an attacking midfielder, Karetsas has also excelled in the right wing, a testament to his amazing versatility at just 18 years of age.
His meteoric rise has also coincided with him getting called-up to Greece's national team, making nine appearances in 2025 and another one this year. He scored on his second appearance for them against Scotland in a UEFA Nations League clash, making him the youngest ever scorer in the competition history as well as that of the Greece national team. Karetsas then bagged two more goals in their ultimately unsuccessful 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier campaign.
As per Funke Sport, he is planned as an immediate starter for Dortmund as the young gun would get more opportunities to develop his prodigious talents under Niko Kovac's management. Plus the added incentive of Champions League football makes a move even more appealing for Karetsas.
He would no doubt be a valuable addition to the BVB squad, who are set to lose another creative force in Karim Adeyemi, who is close to joining FC Barcelona with a deal already reached with the Spanish giants.
