Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha wants his team to win the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Bayern Munich next month.
The BVB host the 2026-27 season curtain-raiser at the Westfalonstadion on 22 August, hoping to end their five-year trophy drought and finally lift another silverware again.
Although Niko Kovac's side finished empty-handed last season, they managed to qualify for the one-off German Supercup as Bayern won both, the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal Cup.
Nmecha, one of the star's of Dortmund's 2025-26 campaign, iterated their desire to win the trophy as the midfielder feels beating their arch-rivals would give them a lot of momentum going into the new top-flight campagn. Speaking to Sky Sports Germany, he said:
""Of course, we want to win. If you win a game like that directly against Bayern, it naturally gives you a lot of momentum. Hopefully, we will do it.""
Dortmund last won the cup in 2019 after beating their Der Klassiker nemesis 2-0 at home, but Bayern avenged it with back-to-back triumphs over them in 2020 and 2021, winning 3-2 and 3-1 respectively.
Just a week on from the 2026 German Supercup, Dortmund officially kick-start their Bundesliga campaign at home to Hamburger SV as they aim to win their first top-flight crown since 2011-12 season.
Nmecha set the record straight that his team wants to lift the Meisterschale but will approach the season one game at a time.
""I believe that in every cup competition and also in the season, the goal must be to win. I know for myself and as a team that we're not just there to participate. Of course, we want to win. But it's important not to think too far ahead. The goal is clear, but we have to take it one game at a time.""
Last season, Dortmund remained on Bayern's coattails heading into the final few weeks of the campaign but a spectacular implosion, resulting in three defeats from four games, handed Bavarians the trophy again.
Statistically, it was still their best top-flight campaign in years, achieving their highest finish (2nd) since 2023 while accruing the most number of points in the competition since 2019.
Dortmund also conceded the least number of goals with 34 - Bayern shipped in 36 - while losing just five times, the least in the division after only Bayern (1).
Felix Nmecha and co. are currently in their pre-season campaign and play FC Tokyo on Saturday, 1 August.
