Konstantinos Karetsas has labeled Borussia Dortmund supporters as the 'best' after completing a €30 million transfer from Genk.
The Greek international was officially unveiled as the new BVB player on Monday and had a chance to interact with some of their fans at a nearby restaurant too.
Karetsas later revealed that he's excited to play in front of them at the iconic Signal Iduna Park stadium, which never fails to whip up a 'crazy' atmosphere:
"“BVB has the best fans—the craziest, in a good way! 80,000—I’ve never played in front of so many people before. So that’s really exciting for me.""he told in his first club interview
However, he may have to wait until 15 August to make his home debut in the preseason as Borussia Dortmund are scheduled to play AS Roma that day.
Their first home game of the 2026-27 season comes a week later against arch-rivals Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup where Karetsas is expected to make his official debut.
Just 18 years of age, the Greek international alerted Europe with his eye-catching displays for Genk last season that yielded 11 assists in the Belgian Pro League as well as two goals and five assists in their Europa League campaign.
Dortmund beat everyone to his signature but had to shell out the second highest fee for a player in their history, behind only the €35 million they had to splash on Ousmane Dembele from Rennes in 2016.
Dortmund fans are 'smart people', says Karetsas
Karetsas was full of generous puffery for the Borussia Dortmund fans, whom he also labeled 'smart'. When the player was asked about what he knows about the supporters, he added:
" "I also know that they’re hard-working, smart people. That’s similar to the people from my hometown of Genk. It’s nice to know that.”"
Just hours after completing his transfer, Karetsas surprised the BVB fans at the Gyros restaurant as they had a chance to meet and greet him in person there while also clicking a few selfies.
The club wrote on their official website that the Greek spent an hour interacting with the fans there and signed autogpraphs as Karetsas looked ecstatic about the warm reception from them.
He also met up with a young Greek fan of Dortmund who had received a special invitation for the event to visit the Kamen-Methler near Dortmund's stadium and meet their latest star.
