Borussia Dortmund have opted against making a move to sign Rayan Cherki, instead deciding to focus on bolstering the squad in other positions.

Rayan Cherki emerged as a key target for Borussia Dortmund for the attacking midfield position. The 20 year old is available for a cut-price fee of around 15 million euros this summer, and is keen on a move to the Black and Yellows. But it appears that the BVB bosses have shelved their plans to sign Cherki this summer, citing budget constraints.

Borussia Dortmund withdraw interest in Rayan Cherki

This is being reported by SportBILD, who add that Borussia Dortmund are prioritising the signing of Yan Couto over Cherki. The report adds that BVB are also not fully convinced of the qualities over Cherki as a potential midfield reinforcement. A move for the Manchester City right-back, meanwhile, is expected to cost around 25 million euros and could be completed this week.

It remains to be seen whether Borussia Dortmund will revisit their plans to sign Cherki later in the transfer window, especially if they are able to raise funds via sales of first-team players. But for now, it appears that the attacking midfielder will not be joining BVB.

Rayan Cherki, who is currently representing France at the Paris Olympics, came through the youth team ranks at Lyon and has made a total of 141 first-team appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals and assisting 25.

Borussia Dortmund's decision to not sign Cherki could work out in favour of Gio Reyna, who is facing an uncertain future at the club. It has long been reported that the USMNT international is free to leave the club. But BVB might retain him as a back-up option to Julian Brandt.
