Managing director of Borussia Dortmund Lars Ricken has cleared the air surrounding the futures of some of their first-team stars.
As the BVB squad returned to training ahead of their pre-season opener on Saturday, Ricken was among those who spoke to the press present at the ground.
The 50-year-old once again asserted that Nico Schlotterbeck, Serhou Guirassy, Julian Ryerson and Felix Nmecha are still very much a part of the club unlike all the exit rumors.
Sky Sports Germany has quoted him saying, (via BVB Newsblog on X):
""We’ve kept the core of the team together. It’s been reported often enough that Schlotterbeck, Guirassy, Ryerson, and Nmecha are gone. No, they’re all still here. That’s extremely important, and of course we’re not going to settle for that now.""he said.
His comments come in the wake of exit rumors surrounding each of the players as Schlotterbeck, Guirassy, Ryerson and Nmecha were all touted to depart the Signal Iduna Park this summer.
Schlotterbeck was linked to Real Madrid, while Fenerbahce were apparently after Guirassy. Ryerson was on Manchester United's radar while Nmecha became a hot commodity after his eye-catching displays at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Germany.
But Ricken's setting the record straight would be music to the BVB faithful, who could see more new arrivals at the club this summer as Ricken revealed that Dortmund are in no hurry to announce signings and want to move wisely in the transfer market.
He added that:
""We want to make one, two, or three really good signings. But we want to make the right signings—not just any signings that might get us a round of applause for a moment, only to leave us wondering later if they were really the right ones. Instead, we’re taking the time to sign players who will ultimately make us better.""Ricken added further
Dortmund have already added three new players on the books with Joane Gadou, Justin Lerma and Kaua Prates but are actively seeking to strengthen their squad further.
Each of the three new arrivals are 18 or younger and the BVB would surely want to add some experienced heads too as they aim to compete for titles on multiple fronts next season.
Plus, the departure of Julian Brandt, Niklas Sule and Salih Ozcan has made the squad lighter in a few positions while Karim Adeyemi is currently on his way to Barcelona too.
It will be interesting to see if Borussia Dortmund can pull off some major coups this summer.
